I was super excited to get my hands on an early copy of book 2 in Brenda St John Brown s The Truth Series There was after all a bit of a cliffhanger in book 1 that I was dying for some resolution to You ll be happy to know that the story jumps in right where we were left hanging with our mouths open If you remember Ella happened to see Josh s phone ringing with a name she never in a million years would have expected on the screen Finding out that Josh has a tie to her ex Eric, has her questioning all her decisions as of late, and knowing that the person she was just starting to let in and starting to trust has betrayed that by not being honest with her has crushed her But Josh has other plans He s going to take Eric up on his offer of a second attempt to ruin Ella, but instead of spreading the slander he wants Ella s help to make Eric pay for the things he s done to her In order for this to work, she has to decide whether she trusts Josh and believes his intent to help or let Eric get away with ruining her reputation in the public eye one time I hated that cliffy at the end of book 1 you guys I was so worried about where this betrayal would leave Ella and Josh But I should have had faith in Brenda s story telling for sure It was actually a perfect place to wrap up the first part of their story Josh really did betray Ella s trust they never should have taken their relationship where it went without him coming clean to her about his past However, I love the way it all played out in this second half of the story I was so happy when I found out Josh s true plan, and it was wonderful to see Ella learn to not only trust in Josh and what he was doing, but to also trust in her own instincts and her own decisions I m going to be honest here, the plan that is in place is incredibly dramatic there are a lot of moving pieces and ultimately they would have been looking to stoop to Eric s level just to cause the same kind of harm he did to Ella, and while I m always for a little bit of vengeance and revenge, this felt so wrong Interspersed through the current timeline chapters, we get snippets of the days weeks months following Ella s loss of their baby, and how it affected her but within those chapters you also get to see Eric trying to connect with her and ultimately you see that while he maybe wasn t hurt in the same way as she was, he was still struggling with what had happened and his lashing out at her was probably the only way he knew to show her how much it hurt him Honestly, both Ella and Eric were absolutely flawed characters who were in a relationship that wasn t healthy the things that they did to each other were terrible, and yet they stuck it out This is going to sound incredibly weird right now, but I couldn t help but think that the way things are resolved at the end can be summed up in a Gwen Stefani Lyric I remembered for the first time, since I hated you that I used to love you I realize that most of my review here reflects on the relationship that used to be instead of the one we should be cheering for i.e Ella and Josh, but ultimately this book is a bit of both The possibility of rebuilding the instant connection she had with Josh and also being able to let go of the past and not let the mistakes of her past with Eric infringe on that Honestly, I was a bit surprised at the end of this story, and I think some of you will be too It s hard to grasp considering you spent 90% of the story waiting for this big thing to happen but ultimately I was happy that things go down the way they do I think it would have been a bit too over the top for everything to play out like they had planned and ultimately it would have made Ella and Josh no better than Eric and what he did to her in the past I love Brenda s characters, and writing and I really enjoyed the evolution of the relationships in this story I think that she does an amazing job at making characters relatable and getting you to understand what they re feeling and how they re reacting and the ending was definitely a satisfying conclusion in the lives of Ella and Josh If you haven t yet picked up anything by Brenda St John Brown, I m going to strongly suggest you do Start with Swimming to Tokyo it was absolutely one of my favorite reads last year, and then dive into this duology I think you ll be incredibly happy with the stories she tells Thank you to the author for providing a copy for review in exchange for my honest thoughts.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest reviewAs I really enjoyed the first book in this series, I was excited to start the second book I think I wasn t in the right mood for this one, as I just couldn t get into the story I just didn t feel it The first book ended at a cliffhanger and I was curious to see how this book continues, but it just fell a bit flat for me I wasn t 100% happy with where the story went and it just felt a bit slow, although that s probably just me The flashbacks in this book felt a bit dull and not as interesting as in the first book there were still things I did enjoy, but I just felt like I was reading this book at the wrong moment and couldn t fully appreciate it.So the story is about Ella who s ex sued her and convinced the public that she murdered her own baby Trying to recover form the whole thing Ella makes a road trip and in a small village she meets Josh, they make a connection and form a great couple until something comes to light and their relationship hits a difficult stride in this book Ella her ex wants to sue her again in this book, even though it was obvious to both the characters and the reader that he had no case, didn t need the money and was just being nasty for no reason I don t like it when characters act like that as it makes no sense So most of this book deals with Ella and Josh moving back to New York and trying to deal with her ex s new attempt to sue her And while I say Josh and Ella, they aren t really in it together as there is some conflict they have to solve I didn t really care for the New York city and much preferred the small town of the first book Then there is the whole plan on how they plan to deal with her ex that just felt wrong to me, the main character also acknowledges that luckily, but it still left a bit of a bad taste In the end I was satisfied with how it got solved although I never really felt the suspense And the solution seemed a bit too easy, they go through a whole book and a lot of trouble and in the end it got solved so easily, it just felt a bit off.We get some flashbacks in this book to after the loss of her baby and how Ella dealt with it, the chapters are short and don t really distract from the story, but I didn t feel like it added much either, unlike in the first book where the flashbacks told the full story of how she lost her baby and her relationship with her ex It s important to keep an eye on the dates before each chapter so you know whether it s in the past or now.The one thing I did mostly enjoy in this book is the romance, Josh and Ella make for a nice couple and have some great chemistry I wasn t quite a fan of the conflict that s introduced in this book and thought it could ve been handled better, but it did ave them the chance to deal with some issues they needed to deal with before being able to fully commit to the relationship There are a few scenes where they are a bit nasty to each other and I wasn t a fan of that, but once they got past that point I was happy again with how their relationship played out They both have made mistakes in the past and are a bit broken, but they are perfect for each other and I was happy overall with how the romance played out I also liked how this felt like a bit of healing and moving forward for Ella and it made me happy to see her find a bit of happiness after all she had been through. To summarize I didn t enjoy this book as much as the first book, but that s probably partly as I didn t quite feel this book and felt like I wasn t in the right mood for it The plan for dealing with Ella s ex left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth and I didn t like that part Her ex also seemed to be nasty for no particular reason and I never really got why he decided to try and sue her again, it just didn t make sense In the end I was satisfied with how that plot line got resolved, although it seemed a bit too easy The flashbacks were done okay, but I felt like they didn t really add much to the story unlike in the first book I did enjoy the romance, there s some conflict which I didn t like, but I did feel like it was necessary for them to work through those issues Josh and Ella make for a good couple and they have some great chemistry All in all is was a nice sequel and it wraps up the series nicely, but it fell a bit flat for me and I enjoyed the first book .

Truths We Tell is available today 12 8 15 on Get it here received in exchange for an honest review.I m actually not totally sure how to rate this book I have extremely mixed feelings on it and didn t initially know whether I wanted to give it a 3 or a 4 star rating I got so mixed up in Ella and Josh s world that it was almost like I was on a bender that I needed to come down from before I could write this review That ending shocked me, but after the initial shock wore off I decided I liked it I m okay now I think I ll live to read another day The second book in the Truth series picks up immediately after the events of the first book I m going to assume that anyone reading Truths We Tell has already devoured the first book so there are very light spoilers ahead Ella has just learned of Josh s connection with Eric and is totally dumbstruck by it I LOVED this plot twist When we find out exactly what it was Josh had to do with Ella and Eric s messy past my jaw was on the floor The big reveal made so much sense, but was totally unexpected This book was a super fast read Once again, I was totally sucked into Ella s train wreck of a life and couldn t look away This novel is compelling as all get out The pacing is great and even when it doesn t seem like much is happening I was entertained I had a great time reading this BUT there were a couple of things that I was conflicted about I really loved the flashbacks I loved getting to know Ella even through her mourning process The scenes where she s experiencing so much grief did so much to help me understand her as a character However, other than to give the reader insight into Ella, I didn t really understand the point of the flashbacks They seemed kind of random If omitted, the book still would have been completely readable While I enjoyed them, I didn t get them I kept expecting them to be super important at some later time in the books so I was reading them them super carefully like they were building up to something bigger Like if I didn t pay enough attention, I wouldn t understand the big reveal Unfortunately, the flashbacks didn t seem to be a major thread in the story s fabric They were just there They were interesting and I liked them, but they almost seemed tangential to the main story Like they maybe should been a separate novella which I would absolutely buy and read, for the record.Additionally, as I wrote in my review of the first novel I didn t quiet understand the way the chapters were labeled Some said two years earlier some took place in 2011 the flashbacks and some took place in 2013 present day It took me a minute to get used to this again I eventually got it in my head that 2011 past and 2013 present, but the fact that the author used these years was weird to me since the book never covered any events outside of 2013 So it seems like two years earlier and present day would have been better descriptors. One thing I really love about this author is that her characters have realistic problem solving skills People act human in her books There s no crazy town drama or big convoluted revenge plots with a million moving parts Except in this book there kind of is So when the rise began to fall and the conflict wrapped up, I was a little let down by it all It felt kind of anti climatic I got so wrapped up in the drama, that when they drama failed to totally implode and go past the point of no return, I was forced to let out my breath and really think about this ending Would I have liked this book as much with another ending Would it have been as satisfying Or would it have done this Jumped the shark Or nuked the fridge for you Indiana Jones fans Pick a metaphor No I wouldn t have liked it It would have been stupid And I would have been mad This author s characters are amazing They re so multi faceted and real I loved getting to know Ella I love that she wasn t just another NA cliche She was real and flawed and made a ton of mistakes Her relationship with her sister and growing relationship with Trudi were incredibly endearing Being in her head for most of this novel was a pleasure I wanted to be in Josh s head I feel like he remained a bit of an enigma in this book The book mostly focuses on Ella s story and it felt like Josh wasn t fully there for a lot of it He made appearances, but didn t feel fully fleshed out a lot of the time This review is awfully complain y for how much I adored this duology I m not sure why I do that If I hate something, I mostly just rant and post animated gifs that explain all of the stupid things that happened or and this is what I do 90% of the time nowadays I just DNF it So I want to be very clear to you people YOU SHOULD READ THIS The writing is so strong The characters are well developed I didn t roll my eyes once I kept being surprised by plot twist after plot twist This review is so long and critical because I m still coming down from a pretty bad book hangover Because I was so wrapped up in this world that I m having a hard time sorting all of my thoughts out That s why you re getting this weird stream of consciousness review I m sorry That s just the way it is this time In conclusion Brenda St John Brown has delivered another quality novel Every time I open something new of hers I mentally brace myself to be let down So far, I haven t been Which is actually kind of stressful when you think about it The pedestal I have Brenda on just gets higher and higher No pressure, Brenda If you haven t already, get started on this series now It s phenomenal Then go read Swimming to Tokyo If you re one of my friends you may be getting that one for Christmas anyway As always, this review is also posted to my blog Crazy Something Maybe.P.S Anyone have any thoughts on what s an appropriate time to wait before posting any idea when your next book comes out to Brenda s page I m only like 40% joking here.

Trusting Josh is the second book after Tempting Josh, so guess what YOU MUST READ BOOK 1 FIRST At this point Ella doesn t know if she can trust Josh, yes I know it s a play on words but there s no other way around it, and her heart is shattered She finds out that he knows a little bit about her past issues than he let on, which she never saw coming Now there s no trust there, and even though Josh isn t the same man, can she trust him enough to help her avenge her past that s coming back again This story instantly sucked me in, and the fast paced story line kept me turning the pages quickly So much has been revealed at this point, that the f bomb dropping is loud and proud in my house I really enjoy Brenda St John Brown s talented writing style, as her stories are definitely original with realistic characters But what got me this time, and remember this is only MY OPINION, was the ending Instead of too rushed, it was like the story just stopped without really wrapping things up I wanted Ella to have a huge ending after everything she went through So anyway, having said all of that above, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

This was a great story wrap up for Tempting Josh We watch as Ella tries to navigate through her feelings for Josh while taking on a fight for her livelihood against her ex who is trying to squeeze even money from her due to her new rising fame and movie deals Ella struggles with self doubt throughout the book, but also shows her aggressive side when it comes to her ex There was a lot of plotting going on throughout this part of the story Every step she took was toward a goal to stop her ex or find a relationship with Josh She has so many inner struggles trusting any man, in general She wasn t chaste in her relationship with her ex either, so she doubts she can ever be in any relationship at all In the end, Ella does what is right for her or what will bring her peace in her relationship with both her ex and Josh In the end for me, I wanted of Josh and Ella though A follow up novella on Josh and Ella would be wonderful Again, I thought this was a great debut duet ARC provided for review.

Find this review and at kimberlyfaye reads. When we left Ella and Josh at the end of Lies We Live, Ella had just learned there was a connection between Josh and her jerk of an ex boyfriend, Eric Readers didn t know the nature of the connection, but you had to assume it wasn t something good It was a wicked little cliffhanger and I couldn t wait to find out and see how the story was resolved It s going to be tough to review this book without spoiling the story, so I m gonna keep it short and sweet here Truths We Tell was a fantastic conclusion to The Truth Series duology I liked how everything wrapped up and even importantly I really enjoyed the ride Ella and Josh were such great, complex characters and I was fascinated by their story Even as they were struggling with recent revelations and how their pasts were connected, I shipped these two hard I wanted Josh to make amends and do a bit of groveling I wanted Ella to accept him and his apology and find real happiness I wanted Eric to pay for being such a bastard to Ella both in the past and again now as his accusations reared their ugly heads again I wasn t ever sure how everything would play out when it was all said and done and I liked that uncertainty Even , I liked how it all actually did wind up It was surprising and, honestly, perfect for me It proved what type of person Ella truly was and I appreciated it Both of the books in The Truth Series were quick, easy reads that I thoroughly enjoyed and can definitely recommend I loved how the story was revealed in little bits, through both Ella and Josh s perspectives, with both flashbacks and current day scenes Now it s back to waiting to see what Brenda gives us next She s three for three as far as I m concerned, so I can t wait to see what s next I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The sequel to Lies We Live, Truths We Tell picks right back up with Ella seeing Eric s number calling Josh and her feeling of betrayal The road for these two was never going to be easy They needed to look in the mirror and learn from past mistakes to have a healthy, happy relationship In order to do that, they must put the past to rest and move on Easier said than done Eric has another move up his sleeve He wants to sue Ella for royalties as he was the sole provider for the household while she was writing her bestseller Will Ella trust Josh enough to help her or will she push him away for good Loved this series I devoured both books in a couple of days as I was desperately hoping for a HEA They had their work cut out for them, but the growth in trust and honesty on both their parts helped bridge the divide With the use of flashbacks and alternating POV s, I got the full picture of what happened in the past and why each character acted the way they did Now Ella must figure out if second chances are possible for all involved and if she deserves a happily ever after.I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
